What is Recovery Partition?
Initially, manufacturers used to send recovery disks along with the computer so that the user would be able to recover all the initial factory information and settings. But in recent times, especially on laptop computers, they have started to partition the hard drive and dedicate a small section to store data for the recovery process. This way, the user does not need to restore all the way to factory settings anymore, but they can actually restore up to a certain date and time if they chose. For instance, if you have installed software that is causing serious issues on your computer, you can perform a recovery back to the day or time previous to you doing that installation. The computer would then go back to what it was then, but your documents that were created after that date would still be intact. The recovery process will only affect installations.
Issues experienced with Recovery Partition
The problem with partition recovery in Toshiba Satellite® T100 is that the information is stored on the hard drive; therefore, if the hard drive crashes, is reformatted or has to be replaced for whatever reason, then you would lose all your recovery data. Additionally, a partition will be sharing your hard drive’s space and will be using up some of the memory. Therefore, if the hard drive is not big to begin with and you have a lot of other things to store, then you will eventually have a space problem because the Recovery Partition in Toshiba Satellite® T100 has its own dedicated space that it is using and you will not be able to use that space unless you delete the partition.
To ensure that none of the above issues become your problems, you should create a back up recovery disc. The Toshiba Satellite® T100 is equipped with an application that allows you to burn a recovery DVD that will be bootable. Therefore, you will be able to recover your computers information and settings if the hard drive crashes. That same bootable disk can also be used to recreate a partition on the new hard drive. It is recommended that you still keep the partition on the hard drive, even if you have created a recovery boot disk. If you need additional space, try upgrading the hard drive to a bigger one and recreating the partition to keep your system information updated and safe for the next time that you need a recovery.
