Toshiba A215 laptop with 15.4inch wide screen LCD display offers a fairly standard 1,280x800 native resolution that keeps text and icons highly readable. It is armed with a 1.9GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 processor and 2GB of RAM, and ATI Radon X1200 graphics, the Toshiba Satellite A215 fell in the middle of a pack of similarly priced laptops on CNET Labs’ benchmarks.
This Toshiba A215 laptop is capable of fulfilling everyday computing needs and was able to display Windows Vista's Aero effects and sidebar gadgets. They will not give you any in-depth options, but were simple and easy to use. Toshiba Satellite A215 offers a decent assortment of multimedia components at a reasonable price, but its low-end AMD processor is no match for similarly priced Intel-based notebooks.
The Toshiba Satellite A215 laptop incorporates a low-cost AMD Turion 64 X2 processor. The 6.3-pound Toshiba Satellite A215 sports a shiny onyx blue lid, which is so dark that it actually looks blacker than blue, and as is usually the case with high-gloss finishes, it is a real fingerprint magnet. The front edge of the lid is tapered, allowing access to a set of bright blue LED status lights mounted on the lower edge of the chassis, along with a Wi-Fi switch, a 5-in-1 card reader and amber indicator light, microphone and headphone jacks, and a volume dial. The keyboard deck provides plenty of wrist room, and the full-sized keyboard and touchpad is comfortable and responsive.
Build and design
Toshiba A215 is shiny onyx blue in color and weighs in a bit over six pounds and is about an inch and a half thick. Given its weight and size, it is not a notebook that should travel daily. The back and forth to the office or the occasional night out seem reasonable and it just looks like a big multimedia notebook. The Toshiba A215 has rounded edges and a dark tone except for the keyboard, which is white or silver.
The Toshiba Satellite A215 includes a sturdy keyboard with full-size keys that are a bit loud. The laptop is roomy and the touch pad and broad mouse buttons are responsive. The touch surface of the laptop is recessed, which helps prevent you from accidentally grazing the touch pad and misplacing the cursor while typing.
The Toshiba A215 Laptop has the Pioneer DVR-K17LF DVD burning optical drive. It burns all types of CDs and DVDs including dual layer and it has support for DVD-RAM. The Pioneer drives on the A215 supports Labelflash. Optical drive is a method of printing on a disc using the laser on your optical drive. You must use LabelFlash discs and it is very similar to LightScribe. One LabelFlash disc is included with the Toshiba A215 laptop.
The hard drive with the Toshiba A215 is huge. You get tons of space for you to throw on a lot of music and movies and the drive runs cool and quiet. Most likely to accommodate the extra platter needed to give 250GB. If you prefer to upgrade the drive, Toshiba A215 has made access to the drive and memory modules a painless process. Just take a few screws and you are ready to have at it.
The Toshiba A215 comes with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. Like of the most consumer notebooks there was a fair amount of bloatware on the machine. The Toshiba A215 laptop helps keep the cost down. Toshiba A215 does include a Vista Anytime Upgrade disc. Instead of giving you trialware, Toshiba does include some of their own applications for the basics like viewing DVDs or burning discs.
The Toshiba A215 is a multimedia notebook and is suitable for buyers who want lot of space in their hard drive.
