Optical Drive in Toshiba® Tecra A11
What do you mean by an optical drive? What are the common issues which occur in optical drive of Toshiba Tecra A11 system? What are the ways to resolves such issues?
An optical drive is the disk drive system of a computer which uses the laser or electromagnetic waves for carrying out functions like reading and writing data to/from the optical disks. These drives are used for running media devices like CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs etc. Optical drive is an important part of a computer and anything from songs to movies to photos stored on a media disk can be played using it. Toshiba Tecra A11 comes along with DVD-SuperMulti optical drive (+/-R double layer) and in the following section we will discuss about commonly occurring issues with such optical drive along with the steps to resolve them:
- Unable to recognize any disc
- Does not auto detect discs
- Unable to hear sounds from optical drive when running a disc
Unable to recognize any disc
This means that the optical disk drive in your system is not able to read any disc which is inserted in it. It could be an audio or a video disc. This kind of issue arises when the optical part of the drive fails (which could be laser or electromagnetic as discusses earlier). In such situations no disc will be read or recognized by the drive in your system. It is a severe problem and can be resolved by buying a new optical drive for your computer.
Does not auto detect discs
Generally when you insert a disc into your system optical drive it pops up a window for auto playing the disc. In a situation like mentioned here your system drive loses the capability to auto play any disc and it has to be done manually by right clicking on it in “my computer”. This kind of problem occurs when the feature for auto play gets disabled in your system. To fix this problem turn on the auto play option by going to Control Panel in Windows 7 operating system.
Most of the optical drives come along with headphone jack to enable you to listen to sounds when you play a disc without having to physically plug the headphone into your system. However, no sound situation arises when the digital audio option is turned on in your system. To fix this issue, turn off the digital audio settings for your optical drive.
